Greetings
Residents of Mesquite!!
Well, today was the kick off of our mission trip. We rose this morning
to the greatness that is the mission trip cereal buffet. Following a
nourishing breakfast, the students gathered to prepare for their Bible
clubs, cooked a fabulous lunch of taco salad, loaded the vans to embark
on our first day with the children of the Rio Grande Valley. We passed
out nearly 1000 flyers surrounding the two locations of our Bible clubs.
After passing out the flyers, we headed to a church in the community
that we will be doing some work for in order to get a game plan for the
week as to the projects we would tackle this week. It is amazing how
content the people of the valley are despite the fact that they are so
lacking in the area of material possessions. We have a full list of
tasks to accomplish this week including the reconstruction of an outdoor
stage, hanging of sheet rock, taping and floating current sheet rock,
landscaping, painting, and several other projects. We then kicked off
our Bible clubs, and God brought the harvest. We had just over 70
children between our two parks, which is the most we have had on the
first day of mission trip. One of our locations of Bible clubs is in the
front and back yard of a Christian family in the area. The family
consists of a single mom and her three kids. The family lives in a home
that is no more than 400 square feet, consisting of a kitchen and two
bedrooms. The house has no insulation, carpet, or a/c. What is so
amazing is how content this single mother is. In spite of such limited
material possessions, this mother continues to show the joy of the Lord
in all she says and does (at least I think, seeing how she speaks no
English!) Needless to say it was a great first day! We ended our day
with a time of worship and sweet fellowship. It is now 12:50am, and the
students have just gone to bed….that sounds like a great idea, so
until next time please be sure to keep us in your prayers.
Coram
Deo, (before the face of God)
Chris
